The Merchant of Venice (2004) is a film adaptation of Shakespeare's play where the merchant Antonio secures a loan from the Jewish moneylender Shylock for his friend Bassanio, who needs it to pursue the wealthy heiress Portia. The stakes rise when Antonio is unable to repay the loan and Shylock demands a harsh penalty.
